View Road Wines has been trying to create drinkable summer wines that are inherently glugable yet don’t sacrifice complexity and intrigue. The View Road Wines Rosato is styled on the drier versions from Europe. The dry nature of this wine allows it to pair well with a variety of foods that are consumed in Australia yet the wine is able to sit by itself when you are sitting outside in the beautiful sun. This wine is 100% Sangiovese from a vineyard in the Piccadilly Valley which is tendered by Andrew Cottell. The vineyard is situated on a steep hill which means that the vines really struggle to produce much of a yield (not bunch thinning required with only 2 t to the acre produced). The grapes for this wine were picked early and transported to the winery. The grapes were destemmed and allowed to maintain contact with the skins for an hour before being pressed off to an old French hogshead for a wild ferment. The wine was bottle unfined and unfiltered.
Region: Piccadilly Valley, South Australia.
